The rumblings among subordinates as to who should do a particular job stated below titled;
That’s Not My Job
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it, Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realize that Everybody wouldn’t do it, it ended up that
Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
The above story sums up the real or potential problem that managers face in the workplace. The real test of good supervision is ensuring that Nobody does Somebody else’s job but Everybody works towards the objectives of the organization.
Where there are one or two people in one office, and there is no clearly defined responsibility, there is always the “That’s Not My Job” problem. To avoid this problem, tasks must be clearly distributed, defined and the reporting line of control developed.
When you shy away from your responsibility, you automatically become a liability
